Donegal Ladies meet South Down in Cloughreagh CC, Bessbrook on 7th January, 2012, and the Men play Mid Ulster in Cathedral Hall, Raphoe, on 14th January,. 2012
Could a practice match for the men be organised for same saturday night as the ladies game? Or would there be too many away at the game. Fred does not need to be there as it is only to get the boys some practice.
As far as i've been informed, the junior zone will take place on Feb 4th-probably Ballybrakes. If any club or player wants to nominate a junior, please contact me on 0861295627. A team of 12 and subs will be selected asap. David
Michael Gallagher, Jamie Glackin, Lisa o'kane, Connor Melly and Johnny Crawford to name a few. Should be a decent team going. In with a chance of getting to a final.

Brilliant game to watch with the highlight the 13 shot win by Phyllis, Kathleen, Lila and Vera to leave the visitors well ahead at the interval. A great performance by the South Down ladies in the early ends of the second half had Donegal ladies reeling on the ropes after squandering a 16 shot lead. South Down ladies were aided in both halves by some poor front end performances by Donegal, who were fortunate that Maureen, Amanda, Jean and Elizabeth picked up a 5 to steady the ship and to steady the nerves of the Donegal supporters.
Congratulations to the ladies on another good team performance does not matter who wins or loses as long as you play as a team and the team is playing well great victory ladies keep up the good work
Ref to the above at 9.17pm.. I ve 2 say this is the best and i mean best thing t iiba ve ever done.. It will stop all the glory hunters.. Im delighted with this new rule, cant wait til next season.. GB
How is it good when it stops husband and wifes, partners, best friends playing together. Its crazy. So if PJ Gal wants to play in omagh and no-one from his club will travel it means they lose an entry. Clubs will lose entries over it not gain them
We're coming down to whip your asses boys, so get ready to pay the piper for last years freak result. McHugh to thump Quinn again, Paul to silence Curran and Jordan to break Steel.
After all the hype, I decided to go to the Men's match. Very poor desplay by the McClintock rink, Curran rink, against the mighty Colm McHugh, had great game, Steele's rink had a ding dong battle with Alan Paul, Gallagher's rink played well but PJ had an off day, McGee's rink played well, Quinn's rink lost a 6 and went down from 6 all to 14.9
There is no one at the moment good enough to take the place of anyone who should be dropped. There will be a few positional changes and thats about all.
there is a few people who could be put on the team and 1 or 2 that could be removed but not up to people posting on a blog to pick the team im sad to say.
What do you have to do to qualify for the Zone team in the first place and I am only asking this so any bowler that is not up to speed with the set up will know. In anticipation of bloggers who will want to make fun of this post don't bother yourself I just want a sensible answer.
Dear dodgy would it be possible to put this on your blog, the loss was hard to take
Post Mortem
After intensive and extensive examination of what went wrong with Donegal the bowls pathologists have come up with many possibilities but not one conclusive reason
a. they can’t hack the big games and can only produce sporadically against big teams
b. hangover from demoralising defeat in 2011 when they were hot, hot, hot favourites
c. rumour has it the Fred is considering retirement and the fear is that Donegal will become rudderless with a power struggle ensuing
d. not good enough
e. players with inflated egos
f. Fred been too loyal to some skips
g. big names picking their own rinks
h. a mighty detrimental influence spreading to the young players
there is no way Mid Ulster are 24 shots better than Donegal, will the players step up and accept responsibility or will they pass the buck and make excuses?
It has been quiet perhaps a period of reflection so what did go wrong?
I would think all the bowlers who did not perform on the day know where it went wrong and will take critisism on the chin and rise up above it and improve and learn from it. Don't forget how young this team is.
This was an excellent game, played in a magnificent spirit, with some exceptional bowls from both teams. Donegal struggled over the first few ends but 5 without reply in the 4th end steadied the ship and they stayed ahead for the rest of the first half and ended 27 to 20 to the good. Mid Antrim came out fighting in the second half and had wiped the deficit by the 4th ends of the second half and were actually 1 shot ahead. Unfortunately, the Mid Antrim Ladies lost 8 shots across the rinks in the 5th ends to return to the 7 shot deficit. However, they responded magnificently and fought back to only be two shots down after 19 ends of the match. They managed to get I shot from their finished rink and with two rinks playing the last ends, were in with a chance. However, Donegal skips, Rachel McDonnell and Ruth Crawford, managed to chalk up one shot each over a suspenseful 10 minutes to give Donegal a 48 to 45 win. A game that could have gone either way, with, to be fair, the good fortune going to the home side
Cathedral hall not available for practice game so forget it Joe.
ReplyDeletedoesnt have to be in Cathedral, theres plenty of other bigger halls
ReplyDeleteThe reason for having it in the cathedral was to give the men a practice on the mats almost two years since we played as a team in the cathedral hall.
ReplyDeleteMight be easier to get the men's team together for a practice match 3 rinks against 3. It could be organised for a night before the game.
ReplyDeleteHappy christmas everyone. Am sure we all got nice presents today but the boomer would be the best late present ever. C'mon the sheep sha**ers yeeeha!
